George Porter Jr. has confirmed his Halloween plans. The founding Meters bassist will perform with his Runnin Pardners at New Orleans’ Chickie Wah Wah on October 31, with Brian Stolz serving as a special guest. The guitarist was a member of The Neville Brothers band from 1981-1990 and played alongside Porter in the funky Meters from 1994-2007 and then again starting in from 2011.
In related news, fellow New Orleans act Dumpstaphunk will nod to their funk predecessors on Halloween. The group will host Dumpstaween at Garcia’s Chicago on October 31 on November 1. Their Halloween gig will be a special Generations of Phunk concert, inspired by The Meters, Sly & Family Stone, Tower of Power and Parliament Funkadelic.
Porter and Runnin Pardners will appear at Greenville, SC’s The Mockingbird tomorrow while Dumpstaphunk will perform with the DJ Williams Band at Levitt Pavilion Denver on August 27.
