A new supergroup is entering the fold. Comprised of ‘90s era luminaries, Grammy award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish lead and multi-platinum country legend Darius Rucker, co-founder of R.E.M. and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Mike Mills, joined by founding member of The Black Crowes and the group’s former drummer Steve Gorman, they have launched Howl Owl Howl. The ensemble shared the news of their formation today, alongside a series of November tour dates and the promise of their first single, “My Cologne,” which will arrive on October 31.

Howl Owl Howl is the culmination of world-class musicianship, described as “Some 30 years in the making, the new band fuses organic roots rock with an open-minded alternative flair, matching a fluid, feel-oriented rhythm section to the barrel-chested vocal rasp of an iconic frontman,” according to their official press release.

Each member spent much of their ‘90s prime performing with their respective ensembles and honing their craft, which, as a collective, ignites an organic magnetism between players. “You never can explain band chemistry,” Mills says. “We all like each other. And we all admire each other musically. All those things come together, and if it weren’t fun, we wouldn’t be doing it.”

“It feels great to be singing with a rock band again. It’s like buddies getting together, but also getting to play with your idols,” Rucker adds. “The stuff we’re writing is so different than anything I’ve tried to do before.” As alluded to by Rucker, the supergroup has already amalgamated its talents into new material, including the imminent debut single “My Cologne,” set for release on Halloween, October 31.

After the group drops their first original song, they will support it and their new endeavor on the road, beginning on November 3 at The Vogue in Indianapolis. They’ll follow up the next night in Chicago, before arriving in Washington, D.C., on November 6. Next, Howl Owl Howl will play at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J., before taking their tour through major cities like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.

The final pair of live performances will take place at two Atlanta locations, starting on November 14 at the Georgia Theatre and on November 15 at the Variety Playhouse. “There’s not a single guarantee. We’re finally going to get to plug in and let it rip a little bit,” Gorman chimed in support of the tour.

All tickets for the Howl Owl Howl Tour 2025 go on sale this Friday (9/26) at 10 a.m. local time.
