Bob Weir Shares the History of _Blue Mountain_

Bob Weir will release his new album, Blue Mountain, on September 30, the Grateful Dead guitarist’s first solo album in a decade and first of completely new music in 30 years. Weir recently shared a video of himself detailing the history of the album, which has been a long time coming for the legendary songwriter.

Weir discusses his time as a teenager working on a farm and playing cowboy songs with the ranch hands and how that experience ultimately led to , which he hopes will help to keep the tradition of those songs alive. “It’s a tradition that’s almost gone, and I’ve been wondering what to do with that for decades now,” Weir says.

The guitarist then goes into how he came to know album producer Josh Kaufman and the members of The National that helped out on the record, saying that the group felt attracted to Weir’s cowboy songs and wanted to make a new album out of them.
