Alanis Morrisette’s Jam Baby?
It all started making sense when we a few friends sent us the Us Weekly blurb about Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway and Alanis Morissette getting hitched on May 22. Normally we don’t get sent such links but the piece astutely noted “his career kicked off when he won a Relix magazine contest that gave him a spot on Jam Cruise in 2005.” While that’s true, it should be noted that he also won over fans as a member of BLVD. The band traveled in similar circles to the live electronic groups that have that Burning Man Festival-type vibe. (Souleye’s latest record Balance in Babylon is on fellow livetronica masters STS9’s 1320 Records).
In early March, our sister site Jambands.com posted the news that, “Due to unexpected circumstances BLVD has been forced to cancel their Colorado tour. We regret any inconvenience and look forward to returning to Colorado soon. BoomBox will perform all scheduled Colorado dates as planned.”
Two weeks later, the reason for the cancellation came to light – Souleye had left BLVD after two years. “The split is amicable and BLVD is excited to move forward in its original formation,” the band’s note to its fan said. After playing a few shows in April, BLVD disbanded.
It seems clear that Souleye’s departure from BLVD is due to his more intimate collaboration with Ms. Morrisette which began last October. On Monday she Tweeted, " Hi guys! So happy to share with you that my man Souleye and I got married. We’re very excited to embark on this journey with each other….sending love…connect soon xo – Alanis."
What’s more, various sources and fans have indicated the tour’s abrupt cancellation and the couple’s hasty nuptials are tied to the fact that Morrisette is now with child.
