Video Premiere: The Duke Robillard Band “No Good Lover” (Ft. Sue Foley)

On March 18, Stony Plain Records will issue the latest studio album from Duke Robillard. The guitarist who has received two Grammy nominations and multiple Blues Music Awards over the course of his storied career, recorded They Called It Rhythm & Blues with The Duke Robillard Band. In addition, Robillard invited some notable friends to join him, including: John Hammond, Kim Wilson, Sue Foley, Sugar Ray Norcia and Mike Flanigin.

“I have to say, I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of the sessions for this album,” Robillard says. “It’s just a damn good representation of my band, the guest artists and the music we chose to record. I threw in a few of my own tunes written for the occasion.”

Today we are premiering the official video for “No Good Lover.” Sue Foley guests on the track, along with Mike Flanigin, Robillard notes, “Thinking about guests initially, Sue Foley came to mind early in the planning stages. I had been down in Austin for a Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame show and I got to see and sit in with Jimmie Vaughan and hear Sue sit in with Jimmie with Mike Flanigin also. So it got the wheels turning. I met Sue when she first came to Austin and I watched her grow as an artist into the powerhouse she is now. I always loved the Mickey and Sylvia tune, “No Good Lover,” and it turned out to be the perfect song to collaborate on. We both get to play and sing on it. Who could ask for more? Even though we had to do the tracks separately because of covid, we still had a ball doing it as you can see! “

The Duke Robillard Band will celebrate the release of They Called It Rhythm & Blues, which is now available for pre-order, at The Narrows in Fall River, Mass. On March 25 and The Center for the Arts in Natick, Mass. on March 26.
