Video Premiere: decker. “Awake”
As we’ve previously noted, the psychedelic folk music of decker. is “Tailor-made for a Coen Brothers western…dark, atmospheric and uncomfortably honest.” The latest record from the Sedona, AZ artist, Born To Wake Up, shares a slightly different perspective, as Brandon Decker notes, “I wrote this album with intention of exploring both the darkness and the light; life and death; being asleep and waking up. In the past, I think I tended to write only when I was grappling with some kind of struggle, but I am a person who’s focused on love and gratitude and seeking to be present in the moments of light. So it was important for me to put these anchors of my life into a record as well.”
Today we premiere the official video for “Awake,” from the new record, which is now available from Royal Potato Family. Decker reflects, “’Awake’ is a song about remembering our true nature – as spirit, Creation, love; the very innocent way we all come into this world. I wanted the video to embody that. So much of my journey, and I think where healing takes place, is holding space with the present moment. Really being with it. That was what the intention of the video; to hold space with these beautiful people, look in their eyes and then, hopefully, to look inward and find even the slightest touch more of compassion for ourselves and the world around us. That said, I always found Charles Bradley’s video for “Changes” so powerful in its simplicity and the beautiful, powerful emotion he embodied and that was an inspiration for the video as well.”
decker. is currently supporting Born To Wake Up on a national tour that extends into November.
