Spotify Landmark Chronicles Nirvana’s _In Utero_

September 26, 2013

Spotify launched their Landmark Series with an audio documentary of Nirvana’s In Utero, featuring interviews with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, producer Steve Albini, Meat Puppets guitarist (and part-time Nirvana guitarist) Curt Kirkwood, and Bobcat Goldthwait, the comedian who opened shows for Nirvana during their In Utero tour. While most may note the absence of Dave Grohl in this project, he reminisced about the album elsewhere. Nirvana fans (all music fans, really) will enjoy the stories told by Krist Novoselic and producer Steve Albini they recount the In Utero recording process.

Also included on the website is an essay from guitarist Pat Smear, currently with the Foo Fighters, about the final days of Nirvana and ultimately the final days of Kurt Cobain’s life. “Listening to that stuff, you can get sad,” says Smear when reflecting on In Utero. “Especially when you hear Kurt talking – like, ‘My friend’s gone, forever.'”
