Today, Kyle Hollingsworth is debuting a brand new track, “Tufnel’s Retreat.”

The song was initially conceived with the String Cheese Incident at their studio, but came to fruition with Hollingsworth’s solo project. The multi-sectional, prog-rock inspired song is reminiscent of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Edgar Winter Group.

“Well, this was a fun one,” said Hollingsworth. “[We] kind of dug in deep with the prog hammond organ era on this one. We named it ‘Tufnel’s Retreat’ as a comedic tip of the hat to Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, mainly because it has so many movements, especially its pseudo-classical moment in the middle. As Nigel says, ‘I’m really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it’s kind of in-between. It’s like a Mach piece, really.’ And of course it goes to 11!”

The track comes along with the announcement of a brand new EP from Hollingsworth, entitled 2020, which is due out this coming February. “With the SCI six-month break upcoming in 2020, I decided to branch out and develop some ideas on my own. I love the ability to try different styles and feels with my solo band,” said Hollingsworth regarding the upcoming release. “With this EP, I was just throwing out a collection of songs that speak of where I am right now in my writing. [It’s] just a fun project to bring in the new decade.”
