Held in Patchogue in Long Island, N.Y., the Great South Bay Music Festival is a three-day, family-friendly festival on the waterfront featuring over 45 artists on three stages. Since it isn’t a camping festival, GSB has reasonable hours with each performance ending before 11 PM, and Friday’s music doesn’t start until 4 PM.

While Saturday’s lineup is the strongest (with moe., Tea Leaf Green, Martin Sexton and more performing), Friday and Sunday host a slew of smaller bands worthy of your attention. Here, we round up eight bands you might not have heard of yet.
*Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra “Righteous!” *

This New Orleans 12-piece is an “explosion of righteousness” that performs “secular gospel.” Though the band’s name is a mouthful, Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra has shared the stage with similar acts like Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and more.
*Miles to Dayton “Pass It On” *

A mix of folk, country and classical music, Miles to Dayton has a very polished sound reminiscent of Nickel Creek. Delivering four-part vocal harmonies and improvisational violin and cello parts, Miles to Dayton is stacked with solid musicianship and definitely worth checking out.
*Tauk “When In Doubt” *

Tauk is one of the many local bands on the lineup, making the festival rounds in the Northeast as well as across the country. The four-piece brings a jazz background to their progressive jam-rock sound. The band recorded their latest album Pull Factors with the help of sound engineer Dave Natale (Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac).
*Aeroplane Pageant “Stars Still Pretty” *

Bred out of the indie-pop genre that helped bands like Phoenix flourish, Aeroplane Pageant is a dreamy, psych-folk band that draws inspiration from the likes of the Flaming Lips and the Velvet Underground.
*Kerry Kearney “Great South Bay 2010” *

Kerry Kearney is a veteran to the Great South Bay Music Festival, bringing his slide guitar talents (he dubbed his sound “Psychdelta” ) to the Long Island festival. His band has toured with Robert Randolph, The Allman Brothers Band and Dickey Betts.
*Nonstop to Cairo “Rooted” *

Another local band to the festival, Nonstop to Cairo is bringing the 90s back: ska bands like Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish heavily influence their roots-reggae sound. They are a young band, but in their short lifetime they’ve won Long Island’s Battle of the Bands.
*Ollabelle “Soul of a Man” *

Though the band has been around for ten years, Ollabelle perhaps hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. Headed by Amy Helm, the daughter of the late Levon Helm, Ollabelle gained the attention of T-Bone Burnett and Larry Campbell for earlier albums, but fell off the radar due to motherhood and shifts in Universal Music Group. The band’s newest album, Neon Blue Bird_, finds it’s footing in classic Americana: mixing swampy blues with country storytelling.

Dave Mason is definitely one of the biggest, more established names on the lineup. Though he might be better known for the bands of which he was once a member (He co-founded the group Traffic, appeared on the Rolling Stones’ album Beggars Banquet, toured with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends).
