Tour Diary: Andy Frasco

Hi, I’m Andy Frasco. I like to wear a lot of different hats, including being a songwriter, interviewer, traveler, dance party emcee, uncle, video editor, talk show producer, mental health advocate, diehard Lakers fan and, at times, mushroom enthusiast. Some people call it ADD/ workaholic; I call it trying to squeeze every last drop out of life. We only get a little bit of time on this earth and, when it’s all said and done, I don’t want to be looking at the end of the hourglass wondering if I could have done more with my life. If I have an idea, then I’m going to chase it and try to make it a reality.

I was nervous at first to do this tour diary exercise because, between all the odd jobs and the excess partying, I feel like I usually forget most of the things that I do each week. So I scrolled through my phone and compiled a collection of photos documenting the different things that happened to me during the past few days. What I took from it was: I need to start practicing my instrument more instead of all these other projects I’m working on.

I always ask myself, “What would I like our legacy as a generation to be? Can we stop feeling sorry for ourselves, stop feeling like we deserve something and try to stop fearing our neighbor?” Let’s get back to smiling again, laughing and doing the things that we enjoy doing; life is too short and precious not to. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go down in the history books as part of the generation who just watched the world crumble from the other side of our phones and didn’t do anything about it because we were too distracted to see for ourselves. Hell, I have flaws—we all do. So work on accepting them so that they don’t stop you from making an impact on this world—for not just you, but the future generation you’re going to have to eventually pass the torch to.

Let’s face it: You can’t make everyone happy, but if we start with working on ourselves, then maybe others will follow. Life is about improving your relationship with your soul first—always remember that. I know it’s going to be hard saving the world and it’s very possible that we epically fail at it. But, either way, when it’s all said and done, at least the historians can’t rip us for at least trying with a different outlook, and that’s compassion.

So, instead of raising a fist, try to lend a hand first. Be good to all people, be good to your soul, and I promise you, life will be good to you. Now brush your teeth, put on that weird outfit you always loved and turn off your phones for a little bit because we still have a life to live and experiences to learn from.

 DAY 1— STATE COLLEGE , PA .
I bought a new custom piano that has hydraulics to raise me up. This was the first day I got to use it. I love it so much, it’s kind of obnoxious— but screw it. It makes me happy—the haters can suck it
DAY 2 – CLEVELAND
We met up with Twiddle to start our run with them. Of course, I had to put them on the podcast right away to see how they really feel about touring with my band.
DAY 3 – BALTIMORE, MD.
The Twiddle guys let me sleep in their tour bus—I’d never slept in one before— and it was awesome. I wanted to get to town early so I could have lunch with one of my besties, Gator from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
DAY 4 – LOS ANGELES
My close friend Eric Krasno was getting married, and I didn’t want to miss the wedding, so it was a quick cruise to the other side of the country to celebrate the newlyweds.
DAY 5 – PASADENA , CALIF.
Eric Krasno’s wedding was amazing—a lot of faces I rarely get to see ‘cause we tour so much. So happy to see those two tie the knot. I also got to see my niece and nephew for a couple hours to fulfill my uncle duties before I had to fly back to the East Coast to catch the rest of the tour.
DAY 6 – RICHMOND, VA . (EASTER SUNDAY)
I taught Ryan Dempsey from Twiddle how to crowd surf. He wanted to be the Easter Bunny. We allowed it.
DAY 7 – KALAMAZOO, MICH.
Our first show without Twiddle on the run—the crowd was nuts. Shoutout to the women of Michigan throwing their bras onstage.
DAY 8
I had to finish editing a podcast and I couldn’t finish it on our 15-hour drive—I get migraines when I look at a screen while driving— so I flew to Utah. They upgraded me to first class, which was awesome. (I’ve never flown first class.)
DAY 9 – SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH
Met up with the band again. This is our bass player Floyd greeting me when I got to the venue. The boys decided to keep the bras that were thrown onstage in Michigan a couple of days ago, which was awesome to see upon arrival.
DAY 10
My sweet lady Jill surprised me at the end of the tour. We rented a catamaran and day-drank to celebrate the release of my new album, Wash Rinse Repeat. It was a perfect day.
