Song Premiere: Nahko and Medicine for the People “Garden”
On May 15, Nahko and Medicine for the People will release a new studio record. “I don’t come from a big hippie background,” the group’s frontman explained in a recent Relix feature, “but, as I’ve learned over the years, what I’m really doing is energy work. People’s energy is malleable and you can work with them to do so much.” As we then reported, “Nahko Bear is referencing his performance ethos, but this statement could apply to almost every facet of his life, which seamlessly blends music and activism.” This approach also informs, the group’s forthcoming album, Take Your Power Back. Today, we premiere “Garden,” from the record.
Nahko reflects on the song: “When I’m alone, I am surrounded…by nature, my ancestors, and Creation. We are never truly alone. Look deep within, above and below. That’s what gets addressed in this song. It takes time, nurturing, and patience to turn the stones, or even the soil, that has been there since we were children. It takes courage to tend the garden of your body, mind, and soul.”
Nahko and Medicine for the People will embark on an extensive international tour in 2020, including an appearance at Lollapalooza Chile.
