Prior to their Sunday slot at Austin City Limits, Goose took the stage at Stubb’s BBQ in the Lone Star State last night. The Connecticut-based ensemble was joined by a surprise guest, Big Boi, best known as one-half of the hip-hop duo Outkast, with Andre 3000. For the sit-in, Big Boi assisted the billed band with the debut of his 2000s staple “So Fresh, So Clean.” Later in the night, the band also brought out Dawes’ drummer Griffin Goldsmith, who helped on a cover of Vasudo’s “Rockdale.”

To start their first set, Goose dipped into their repertoire, landing on “Echo of a Rose” to kick off the night before continuing with the second take on the new number “Everything Must Go,” which debuted a week ago at Pullman Yards in Atlanta. To follow, the band paired “Red Bird” with My Morning Jacket’s Jim James’ “State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U).”

They threw in “Animal” next before Big Boi took the stage and launched into the Outkast classic, which also marked the end of the first set. For context, Goose’s guest was in town for his own appearance at Austin City Limits, which occurred hours before the sit-in. To follow Saturday’s memorable moment, Goose returned to their original material to begin the second set on “Creatures.”

The ensemble followed with a cover of Fat Freddy’s Drop before the next guest’s arrival on stage. Then, for the night’s second sit-in, Goldsmith helped out on a cover of Vasudo’s “Rockdale.” After the number, the drummer left, leaving Goose to finish off the night with “Yeti,” “726,” and ultimately, “The Empress of Organos.”

Following last night’s performance, Goose will continue by taking the stage at 7 p.m. promptly for their Austin City Limit’s appearance at Barton Springs.
