Electronic outfit the Glitch Mob may be best known for its effects-laden raucous club bangers, but on its smashing debut Drink the Sea, this L.A.-based trio decided to ditch the production-heavy bells and whistles for a more organic hands-on approach. The resulting ten tracks are atmospheric yet fiercely kinetic with a driving, forward motion thanks to thundering hip-hop beats and evocative, shrill keyboards. The visceral growl of “How to Be Eaten by a Woman” wordlessly connotes the feeling of being chewed up and spit out with a slow building robotic percussion and sharp, serpentine synth tones. “Drive It like You Stole It” is a head nod-inducing jam that incorporates a speaker-breaking bassline and sci-fi effects to make a sonic splash best described as urban electro-prog.
