Sam Bush: Circles Around Me

Glenn BurnSilver on November 23, 2009

With a fine backing band of respected bluegrass sidemen and a handful of guests such as Del McCoury, Jerry Douglass and Edgar Meyer, Sam Bush’s Circles Around Me flows as easily as a mountain stream on a warm day. The album has that light, in-your-room-with-the-windows-open acoustic feel, buoyed by a combination of new originals – the title track, “The Old North Woods” and “Blue Mountain” – and old standards like “Diamond Joe” and “Apple Blossom.” He even fits in a fiddle/banjo duo with the late-Courtney Johnson, circa 1976. It’s Bush as usual, and that’s always at his best.
