RJD2: The Colossus

RJ’s Electrical Connection

To celebrate ten years as an electronic music powerhouse, producer, newly minted indie record label owner and phenomenal beatmaster, RJD2 offers the eclectic The Colossus. Featuring his famous knob-twisting wizardry, white-hot cameos and live tracks, the album helps illustrate just how sonically dexterous he really is. This kaleidoscopic album veers effortlessly from jammy instrumental interludes to fist-pumping hip-hop tracks and spastic dance numbers that deserve a place on your heavy rotation playlist. Standouts include the disco-tinged opener “Let There Be Horns” that’s full of bombastic horns and a hypnotic Middle Eastern slither, and the rock-infused “Gypsy Caravan” that recalls the controlled psychedelia of the Revolver-era Beatles. RJD2 proves that he can make expansive electronic stunners that are anything but grossly grandiose.
