Devon Allman is finally ready to stop hiding from his musical lineage. The son of Allman Brothers keyboardist Gregg Allman, he’s been making music since the mid ‘90s under various band pseudonyms. On Turquoise, a debut solo recording, he insightfully reflects on 12 years on the open road. Opener “When I Left Home” is an autobiographical account of departing and “Twenty years later, you know, I’m still kicking around.” Soaring, slide guitar fills courtesy of Luther Dickinson fuel this upbeat, toe-tapping rocker. He pines for a lover and the comforts of
home on the scorching blues ballad “Homesick,” and the lovely, acoustic melancholic closer “Turn Off the World” finds him ready for the white sands and turquoise waters of a tropical paradise. He’s an elegant, soulful singer.
