Over the weekend, Brandi Carlile descended upon the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tenn., for a two-night stand on Friday, July 8, and Saturday, July 9. The musician welcomed a slew of talent to the stage during her time in Music City, including Wynonna Judd, Lucius, Celisse, Katie Pruitt, Brittney Spencer and more. Initially, the Indigo Girls were billed to perform alongside Carlile but had to cancel after a member of the troupe tested positive for COVID-19.

Friday’s set got underway with a selection of original tunes written by Carlile; before the first guest of the evening, Judd took the stage for a take on The Judds’ 1984 track, “Girls Night Out.” The country music star stuck around for one more tune, another number written by her family band, “Love Is Alive.” Then, the next guests of the night, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, arrived to lend their talents on Carlile’s 2021 track, “You and Me on the Rock,” and a cover of Joni Mitchell’s seminal number, “Woodstock.”

Carlile’s first night at Ascend Amphitheater continued with a few tunes off In These Silent Days and The Story; before the third guest of the night, Katie Pruitt took the stage during the artist’s encore to assist on “Mainstream Kid” off 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter.

Saturday’s show started with “Broken Horses” and “Mainstream Kid” before Lucius stepped out to assist Carlile on “You and Me on the Rock” for the second time in two days. Then, the show continued much like Friday’s concert, with Judd taking the stage for a pair of tunes written by The Judds. Next, Celisse assisted with 2012’s “Raise Hell” off Carlile’s fourth studio album, Bear Creek

The show continued with Carlile and her band covering David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and Radiohead’s “Creep.” In honor of the Indigo Girls, they also performed a rendition of “Virginia Woolf.” Then for Saturday night’s encore, Spencer took the stage to lend some help on The Highwomen tune, ‘Crowded Table.” Next, Carlile covered Lucius’ “White Lies,” before breaking into John Prine’s “Summer’s End,” with accompaniment by her brother, Jay Carlile, and his children J.J. Carlile on fiddle and Caroline Carlile on guitar.

Following this weekend’s epic display, Carlile will continue her summer tour on July 15 at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater along with special guest Lucius. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased here
