Last night, The Rolling Stones descended upon the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam in continuation of their 60th-anniversary tour. The stop was initially slated for June 13 but was rescheduled for July 7 after frontman Mick Jagger tested positive for COVID-19 last month. The legendary ensemble’s Amsterdam performance presented a bust out of the beloved Exile on Main St. number, “Sweet Virginia,” and the first “Let’s Spend The Night Together” of the band’s current tour.

The Rolling Stones’ stand at Johan Cruijff ArenA began with fan-favorite “Street Fighting Man,” followed by a tour debut of “Let’s Spend The Night Together.” Then the ensemble worked their way into “Tumbling Dice” off 1966’s Aftermath. The Rolling Stones landed on “Out of Time” for the next number before the night’s bust out.

Next, Jagger approached the mic with his harmonica in hand to deliver the unmistakable melody of “Sweet Virginia,” following a fan request for the seminal twangy tune. As the band joined in after the harmonic solo, Jagger feverishly grabbed his guitar pick and began strumming an acoustic guitar and singing the iconic lyrics. Midway through the performance, Jagger stepped back from his mic to join Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards for a brief jam. The song was capped with a brilliant saxophone solo and an essence of California cool synonymous with the fan favorite.

Following a “Sweet Virginia” bust out, the band continued to unleash classic numbers like “Honky Tonk Women,” “Miss You,” as well as the set-ender “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” The selection of songs left the audience craving more as they began working their way into the night’s encores, which began with “Sympathy for the Devil.” After a high-energy take on the Beggars and Banquet tune, The Rolling Stones started in on the final song of the night, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Continuing their current tour, the band will head to Brussels, Belgium, for a July 11 concert at King Baudouin Stadium. Tickets remain on sale and can be purchased here
