Five months after the conclusion of its game-changing and massively acclaimed U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere residency, U2 will celebrate the program with a bold new concert film. V-U2, set to premiere at Sphere on Sept. 5, will chronicle the landmark series with the full power of the venue’s technological capabilities. Watch the official trailer below, featuring co-director The Edge who shares, “After all these years, I get to see a U2 show.”
Created by The Edge alongside the U2 guitarist’s spouse Morleigh Steinberg, V-U2 is a grand display of Sphere’s unprecedented technological feats; the film was captured during the band’s 40-show residency–which ran from September 2023 to March of this year–using the ultra-high-definition Big Sky camera system and displayed in the venue’s signature crystal clear video format on its panoramic 160,000 square foot display. The film will amplify its endeavor to return audiences to the revolutionary atmosphere of the first shows at Sphere by using some of the same seat-shaking haptics and pinpoint surround sound that made the live shows so uniquely absorbing.
In a statement on the official announcement of the film, Steinberg shared, “We knew all the tremendous capabilities of the technology, but we didn’t know what to expect from the process of making this film. The work became a true collaboration between the band, artists, producers, and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that transports viewers into the energy and beauty of the live show.”
Tickets for V-U2 will go on sale on Aug. 23 via Ticketmaster. This new project should sate Sphere fans until the venue’s fourth residency, which will begin when The Eagles take the billion-dollar stage for the first time on Sept. 20; read more about this upcoming 20-date series here.
