U2 has been in the studio as of late, working on the follow-up to 2017’s Songs of Experience. The new record, which is projected for release later this year, has yet to be formally announced. However, looking ahead, the quartet has just shared the first song from the project.
“Street of Dreams” is the first new music from U2 to come out during the band’s 50th anniversary year. Drummer Larry Mullen Jr., was just 14 years old in the fall of 1976 when he posted a message on his Dublin school’s notice board, seeking out additional players. The group’s very rehearsal included current members Bono (then Paul Hewson), The Edge (David Evans at the time) and Adam Clayton. The quartet’s latest original reflects the band’s signature sound that has developed over the decades.
The band has released a spirited new video to accompany the tune, which is currently streaming. Directed by Cliqua, it was shot two months ago in Mexico City in May, where the band also attended the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. The video includes a moment when the group plays acoustic music from a local family’s balcony after plans for the video shoot were adjusted after inclement weather shorted out a generator that had been providing electricity to the band’s performance at the Plaza Santo Domingo.
