Toy Factory Project Supergroup Announce Two Nights at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester

Supergroup, Toy Factory Project, comprised of members Paul T. Riddle, Marcus King, Oteil Burbridge, Charlie Starr, and Josh Shilling, will reprise the sound and sensation of Toy Caldwell and The Marshall Tucker Band with a heartfelt two-night tribute on the esteemed Capitol Theatre stage in Port Chester, N.Y., on February 26 and 27.

The impending performances piggyback the group’s debut during the 52nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival last June, where they called attention to classic examples from The Marshall Tucker Band songbook, such as “Can’t You See,” “Heard It In a Love Song,” “Searching For a Rainbow,” and “This Old Cowboy.”

Burbridge spoke with Relix about his initial introduction to The Marshall Tucker Band, via his brother, the late multi-instrumentalist and beloved member of the jam community, Kofi. Recalling,  “I remember hearing about Marshall Tucker Band for the first time, along with Mother’s Finest—Wyzard was one of my really big heroes and is a friend now. Then I heard the Dixie Dregs on Midnight Special and went and bought their record because to me it was like Southern fusion. It’s like classical rock from the south. That was also the first time Capricorn Records got on my radar.”

He continued, “I liked distorted guitar, but I eventually came to realize that for me, that really meant the blues, which is the grandfather of rock-and-roll. My favorite screaming guitarists are Hubert Sumlin, the three Kings and Albert Collins. But I have a great appreciation for rock now because I can see the connection. All these guys—the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band and a lot of the other southern rock bands that I’ve never really listened to like Skynyrd—they all had a deep appreciation for the blues. So did the old school country artists.”
