The Board of Directors at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, Calif., has officially established the Bobby Weir Memorial Fund for the venue’s late “honorary godfather.” The new charitable initiative, launched with the support of the Weir family, aims to raise funds for fellow artists by stimulating the innovative curiosity fostered by the live music venue and its team of consummate workers. 

Weir was an early investor and a co-owner of Sweetwater Music Hall. In a post shared by the Bay Area nonprofit organization and live music mecca, the team starts their post with an acknowledgment of the Grateful Dead rhythm guitar’s significance: “For over 50 years, Bobby Weir has been a guiding light for Sweetwater, both as a founder and a musician. With Bobby’s passing, we here at Sweetwater have lost both a dear friend and one of our biggest fans.”

The post continues, “In honor of his memory, our Board of Directors has established the Bobby Weir Memorial Fund, with an initial contribution of $150,000, and the support of the Weir family. This fund is intended to carry forward Bobby’s legacy by supporting artists, nurturing creativity, and ensuring Sweetwater remains a home for the kind of music and connection he believed in so deeply.”
