Dave Matthews Band Welcome Fiddler Jake Renick Simpson, Play “Snow Outside” for First-Time Since 2015 and Debut “All That I Wanted” in Austin
Last night, Dave Matthews Band arrived at The Moody Center in Austin, Texas, where they submitted the third entry on their Summer Tour. The ensemble’s latest performance consisted of a packed single set display ahead of a two-track encore, which guest fiddler Jake Renick Simpson accentuated at select times. The aforementioned guest helped the band draw on its classic sound and golden days with Boyd Tinsley, while administering another layer of live history.
Dave Matthews Band’s most recent Lone Star State performance represented the latest chapter of on-stage exchanges with Simpson, who has sat in over the years. The Montana-based musician joined the group during their time at Wildlands Festival in Big Sky, Mont., on August 2, 2025, and followed up shortly after by appearing with the group during their annual Labor Day weekend festivities at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington state.
Simpson was also present as a guest during Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds’ appearance at the September 2025 edition of Farm Aid. Most recently, during the aforementioned pair’s annual destination concert event in Mexico, Simpson was invited to sit in, adding to an array of material, including the debut of “Making It Great.”
Last night’s concert found Simpson expanding his DMB repertoire and demonstrating his growing comfort level with this group of players. The guest fiddler initiated his arrival over a three-song batch of material that included “#41,” “Broken Things,” and “Jimi Thing.” Following his departure from the stage, the band was left to dust off the Away From the World cut, “Snow Outside,” for the first time since September 5, 2015, effectively ending a massive 481-performance gap.
During the final segment of the main frame, Simpson returned and added his touch to “Satellite,” “Warehouse,” and “Ants Marching,” which took the night into its official encore. The concert finale began with a lone Matthews stepping out for a solo debut. “All That I Wanted” was dedicated to Matthews’ late mother on her birthday. Watch a fan-shot video below. The full band then returned for “Tripping Billies” along with Simpson, who was present for one last collaboration.
Following last night’s concert, Dave Matthews Band will pull into Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta, Ga. Tickets remain on sale.
