Later this year, Spotify is rumored to present a new premium plan for users. Priced slightly higher (approximately $5 more than the current monthly charge), the offer will provide music lovers with access to a high-fidelity auditory experience and new tools to create playlists and manage song libraries. Offered as an add-on for existing customers, folks can either stick to the current system or bulk up their plan with the reportedly in-the-works addition.

The move comes after Apple and Amazon Music added lossless audio to their plans at no additional charge in 2021 to improve their customers’ musical intake. The competitor streaming sites’ move sparked Spotify’s promise to produce a new high-fidelity audio tier. According to the initial report, which surfaced via Bloomberg, the add-on also allows users to create playlists for particular activities, dates, and seasons, making for an increasingly customizable listening experience. 

“At Spotify, we are constantly exploring ideas to improve our product offering and offer value to users,”  Grey Munford, Spotify’s spokesperson, said in a quote via The Verge. Based on code found within the Spotify App in 2023, the new tier could come with 24-bit lossless audio and artificial intelligence features intended to track listening habits, mood and more.
