Robert De Niro and Elvis Costello Join 39th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert with Kate Pierson, Laurie Anderson, Allison Russell and More
Tomorrow, March 3, the 39th Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert will welcome stars of the stage and screen to New York’s Carnegie Hall to support the cultural advocacy organization and its vital mission. On top of the myriad innovators curated by longtime Artistic Directors Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson, the organization unveiled over the weekend that Robert De Niro and Elvis Costello have joined the lineup.
In January, Glass was one of several high-profile artists to break with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts amid Trump’s hostile takeover of the cultural institution, withdrawing the premiere of his Symphony No. 15 “Lincoln” for its direct conflict with the “values of the Kennedy Center today. As part of tomorrow’s program and continuing a long legacy of politically impactful performances at the event, De Niro will read excerpts from Lincoln’s 1838 Lyceum Address, which inspired and is woven through Glass’s 2019 composition.
De Niro and Costello will join a lineup that also features Anderson, The B-52s’ Kate Pierson, Allison Russell, Jesse Malin, Maya Hawke, Toro y Moi, Christian Lee Hutson, Elysian Fields, The Philip Glass Ensemble, Tenzin Choegyal, The Resistance Revival Chorus, The Scorchio Quartet, musical director Tony Shanahan and more.
Tickets for the 39th Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert are available now. All proceeds from the show will support Tibet House US, the non-profit cultural institution founded at the urging of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to ensure the survival of Tibet’s civilization and culture in exile.
