Last year, Radiohead made their triumphant return to the stage for their first public concerts since 2018. The legendary avant-rock ensembles’s run of 20 performances in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin from Nov. 4 to Dec. 16 transcended atmospheric expectations; in the round, encircled by the audience and a towering cage of translucent screens that rose and fell, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, Colin Greenwood and Philip Selway pulled from a bank of 65 songs to deliver consistently stunning stagings.

Before they took the stage, Radiohead set a subversive tone for their concerts with a pre-show mixtape of songs hand-selected by Yorke. Today, with fans still reeling from their revival and waiting on their next move, the band has shared that atmosphere to Mixcloud. “Experience (or relive) the ambience of a European arena while waiting for Radiohead to take the stage, Radioheadp osted to their social channels. “Thom’s 2025 pre-show mix is now available.”

Yorke’s 35-song, two-hour mix is at least as eclectic as the shape-shifting band’s inspirations, drawing on sources as diverse as today’s cutting-edge alternative hip-hop to a traditional Russian Orthodox choral hymn. After opening with Radiohead’s own “Seattle Ambient Recordings (Minidisks),” a field recording first heard on the leaked version of their 2019 demo compilation MiniDiscs [Hacked], and omitted from the final release, the mix goes on to include deep cuts from David Byrne, Moondog, Lee Hazlewood, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Duke Ellington, billy woods, Syd Barrett, Danny Brown, Aphex Twin, Bill Evans, Leonard Cohen, Faust, Satoshi & Makoto, Leonard Cohen, Mark Pritchard, Plastikman and many more, finally closing with a selection from the Gaellic Psalm Singers.
