Phish Commence Riviera Maya 2026 with New Original and Track Revivals

Phish stepped into the spotlight at Moon Palace Cancún last night to ring in their eagerly awaited Riviera Maya 2026 residency. The storied jam quartet commenced their ninth annual destination event with two exceptional sets, including a pair of unexpected track resurrections and a live debut, amid a balmy mix of old favorites that pleasantly set off a new year of touring
Phish’s first Riviera Maya set slinked in with the shadowy funk of Evolve standout “Hey Stranger,” which gave way to a medley of the festive classics and reliable show-openers “The Moma Dance” and “Back on the Train.” A combined 25 minutes of “Roggae” and “Sand” swept the band into a revival of the Big Boat B-side “Breath and Burning,” delivered for the first time since July 2022. After the radiant “Sigma Oasis” washed over the audience, Phish made history by premiering the new original “Fling Your Head,” then capped off the first frame with a 16-minute “Chalk Dust Torture.”
For their second set, Phish stirred seven well-placed essentials into a rip current, with wave after wave of improvisation pulling the band deep into type two territory. A fitting “Waves” opened (thematically calling to mind “A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing,” the very first song at Phish’s 2016 Mexico debut), which led into a red-hot 25-minute “Fuego,” which moved from a rolling boil down to a simmer to transition into “No Men In No Man’s Land.” A shape-shifting 24-minute “Mercury” was merged seamlessly into an energetic cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman,” then a tight pairing of “Backwards Down the Number Line” and “Character Zero” closed set two on a high note.
As a cherry on top, Phish returned after the lights went down for an encore of “Dog Faced Boy,” the Hoist classic that had been left on the shelf since October 2010. This beloved bust-out spirited the band into an anthemic grand finale of “Ghost.”
Phish will return to the stage tonight and deliver nightly performances through Jan. 31. Learn more about Riviera Maya at phishrivieramaya.com, and stream the shows via livephish.com.
