Since last year, Paul Simon’s A Quiet Celebration Tour has brought the iconic singer-songwriter back to the spotlight after seven years away. Now, that triumphant return will make the jump to the screen with Paul Simon: The Quiet Celebration Concert, a new concert film and documentary arriving on Disney+ and Hulu on June 26.

After concluding his farewell tour in 2018, Simon revealed that he’d been afflicted by sudden and severe hearing loss in his left ear, which worsened rapidly during the recording of his 2023 album Seven Psalms to the point where he became all but incapable of performing. He overcame the long odds against sharing his music again with advancements in assistive audio technology, including a partnership with the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss that created moving monitors that surrounded him in sound on stage, as well as an emphasis on intimate, iconic venues specially selected for their superior acoustics.

“This tour has enabled me to play with musicians again,” Simon said. “I really missed it. Everybody has enjoyed the experience so much. There’s been a feeling of camaraderie and elation that we were playing this piece of music that we were really interested in, and that had a significant effect on me. It made for one of the most extraordinary tours I’ve done — maybe the most joyous.”

Simon delivered 55 performances across North America from April through August of last year and captured the concert film during his tour-closing shows at Seattle’s McCaw Hall on Aug. 5 and 6. Each night began with an immersive, deeply affecting staging of the seven continuous acoustic movements of Seven Psalms, his zeal for which encouraged him to return to the stage, then moved into a selection of favorites from throughout his six-decade catalog. The same shows featured in the film will be accompanied by a companion live album, following on Oct. 9.

Simon recently concluded a European extension of his A Quiet Celebration Tour and embarked on another North American series from Stanford, Calif. on Wednesday. He’s got 24 more performances slated across the country through July 18. Find tickets and more information at paulsimon.com.
