Nectar’s, the 50-year staple of Burlington, Vt.’s live music landscape and legendary proving ground for the jam scene, recently announced a temporary closure. In a message posted to its social channels, the venue spoke to ongoing struggles presented by local redevelopment that caused them to shut their doors through the summer, but forecasted a return in the future as they “actively explor[e] every path forward.”

Before they close the doors, though, fans of the regional jam epicenter still have two weeks of music to enjoy. While the space is closed tonight for the holiday, it will open again on Tuesday, May 27 to present another Grateful Tuesdays tribute to the great jam forebears, this time hosting a local supergroup of The Family Affair with “an absolutely ridiculous amount of local and regional musicians.

An evening with Rage Against the Machine tribute outfit Burning Monk on Wednesday, May 28 will lead into twin performances through the end of the week, with DJ Big Dog, a five-band metalcore bill and DJ KDT playing in The Lounge on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, on the main stage, the All Night Boogie Band will return for Boogie Thursdays, Mihali’s special guests-packed Rumplecrunk project will perform on Friday and Joe Something will bring a special album-release program.

Next week, the last days of Nectar’s for now will begin with a two-night run from Burlington-based jam quartet Dobbs’ Dead, featuring Cotter Ellis on the kit and special guest spots from Dogs In A Pile’s Brian Murray on Tuesday, June 3 and Eggy’s Jake Brownstein on Wednesday, June 4. On Thursday, Bob Wagner will perform with an all-star cast of friends, like the Wood Brothers’ Jano Rix, while DJ Big Dog spins reggae in The Lounge, then Friday will bring the Grippo Funk Band and Madaila. Finally, as a fond farewell to the venue for the time being, funk-fusion drummer Blaque Dynamite will tear it up on the main stage, with The Halluci Nation in the lounge, on Saturday night.
