My Morning Jacket rolled into Atlanta over the weekend to close out their exhaustive 2025 is Tour with a two-night stand at the Fox Theatre. Since the beginning of the year, the honored roots-rock outfit has ripped back and forth across the country to celebrate the release of their 10th studio album, and their final fall leg brought some of the most memorable shows of the broader run. On Friday and Saturday, the band left the road on a high note with a special Halloween performance and their last Z anniversary show.
On Friday, Oct. 31, My Morning Jacket embraced the holiday spirit early by setting off their performance with a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Black Sabbath,” which they last staged in August to honor the late Ozzy Osbourne. The Prince of Darkness loomed over the duration of the show as the quintet embraced their most shadowy and sinister impulses through classics like “Holdin On to Black Metal,” “I Think I’m Going to Hell” and “Death Is the Easy Way,” as well as another cover of the heavy metal innovators’ “Fairies Wear Boots.” After wrapping their set with a cathartic “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2,” MMJ saluted Ozzy again with a debut treatment of “Crazy Train,” preceding a grand finale of “One Big Holiday.”
Saturday brought My Morning Jacket’s fifth and final Z 20th anniversary performance, following other similar events at key venues across the country. To properly honor the project hailed as a masterpiece of modern roots rock and one of the defining rock albums of the 2000s, the group wound through the entirety of its 10-song tracklist, from the soulful, resonant opening chords of “Wordless Chorus” through the fiery finale of “Dondante.” The last celebration of the groundbreaking album fell between an opening set of other favorites like “Half a Lifetime,” “Cobra” and Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels” and a four-track encore, which punctuated a long year of touring with “Hopefully,” “I Can Hear Your Love,” Bob Weir’s “One More Saturday Night” and finally “Dancefloors.
My Morning Jacket have no further shows slated until next April, when they’ll headline North Charleston, S.C.’s High Water Festival. Learn more about the band at mymorningjacket.com.
