Today, Goose continue the rollout for their fourth studio album Everything Must Go with “Lead Up,” the project’s second single. With this new preview of their first full-length studio release in three years, set to arrive via No Coincidence Records on April 25, the multifaceted band shows another side of their sound by steering into a moody, contemplative groove.

“Lead Up” tips Goose’s closely-honed hybrid indie jam sound far into the former, emphasizing tight, hard-hitting composition and cathartic, provocative lyrics–save for a blazing guitar solo from frontman Rick Mitarotonda at the bridge with serious jam potential. Full-time fans will be no strangers to the newly studio polished entry, which first made its mark in the band’s setlists in March 2023 and has since been staged 29 times. Today, Mitarotonda has detailed the source of the standout track, tracing its roots all the way back to his musical origins in his teenage years.

“The record is a collection—of songs, of characters, and of different places and times in our lives,” Mitarotonda recalled of writing “Lead Up” in a release. “It was a way for me to explore feelings that I didn’t really understand at the time. Sometimes as you get older it becomes valuable reflecting on things from that time in your life, and how pure and unadulterated expressions can be then.“

Goose’s second preview single follows the wide-open, bright-eyed introduction of “Give It Time,” which arrived in late January; while the scope and sound of these tracks diverge, they share the same heft contributed by drummer Cotter Ellis as his first two studio recordings with the band. Everything Must Go, which follows 2022’s massively acclaimed Dripfield, is produced yet again by longtime collaborator D. James Goodwin and centers the group’s storytelling strengths with tracks that feature exciting array of colorful characters—several of which are already live favorites.

“These songs all come from different times and places in a way that captures a part of the journey of the band,” Mitarotonda details. “It moves through time for us, but not in a tidy, linear way. Like the band, it’s okay for things to feel more like a landscape sometimes and less like a singular cohesive statement. It mixes different moods and ideas and characters. The through line is that each piece is part of that journey and that everyone is welcome to the party.”
