Grateful Shred to Celebrate Jerry Garcia’s Birthday in Ojai
While Jerry Garcia’s birthday doesn’t necessarily linger in the near future, Grateful Shred is staking its claim and forecasting a special live experience honoring the Grateful Dead guitarist and improvisational surfer. The performance will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, on what would be the musician’s 84th birthday, at Libbey Bowl in Ojai, Calif.
Scant details are available, though the concert comes after the release of the group’s debut studio album, Might As Well, which takes on Grateful Dead originals that endured as live staples. Represented on the record are Garcia’s associated covers and co-writes, including the Jimmy Cliff original, turned Grateful Dawg cut with David Grisman, and JGB favorite, “Sitting Here in Limbo.”
Also featured on the album and a hopeful concert inclusion: the heartbreaker, which conveys “To tell sweet lies one last time and say goodnight,” “To Lay Me Down.” The 1993-released, late-game, rarity: “Lazy River Road” also got the Shred-treatment and represents one of the band’s first releases to feature guitarist John Lee Shannon on lead vocals. Read the band’s latest feature in Relix for more information on their debut album.
An artist pre-sale is underway, using code: SHREDOJAI. General ticket sales begin Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. PT.
