In a new interview with Tool’s Danny Carey, the influential drummer spoke about the band’s interest in participating in a Sphere residency in connection with their forthcoming album [2027]. The timekeeper went so far as to reveal that he had already toured the technologically advanced facility. With regard to its cinematic capacity and the group’s own commitment to delivering a fully immersive experience, he posed the possibility of joining the roster of greats who have already taken the stage.
The interview took place during a press event for the new Sci-Fi/Adventure film, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. For the movie, Carey and fellow musicians Joe Cardamone and Shepherd Stevenson composed the title track, which the founding member of Tool described as experimental and built around jams developed by the accredited trio.
While discussing the atmosphere of the new number, the interview host draws on the cinematic effect of Tool’s live show and its potential to enchant in a space like the Sin City venue, prompting Carey’s response, “Yes, we’re very much into that. We’re hoping, when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere.” He continues, “We’ve been talking to those guys.”
Recognizing the layer of Carey’s revealing response, the host questions, “Has that been said anywhere else?” To which Carey replies, “It would be a first, definitely. The preparation… the high resolution and everything is very expensive and takes a while to get into the black.”
Carey goes on to say that while he hasn’t experienced a concert at Sphere, he has taken a behind-the-scenes tour. Speaking to the potential visual opulence and the band’s authority in creating the desired atmosphere, “We all draw on our influences–from sculptures, painters, whatever, any kind of artist like that, it all feeds into your psyche.”
At this time, Tool’s live schedule is vacant. Visit the band’s official website for the most up-to-date information regarding live appearances and more.
