Yesterday, Billy Joel announced that his show scheduled for tonight at New York’s Madison Square Garden has been postponed after his doctor ordered a vocal rest due to a viral infection.
The performance set for tonight would’ve marked Joel’s 86th performance in his residency at Madison Square Garden and will now instead take place in June of 2023.
“I’m disappointed to share that I’m under doctor’s orders for vocal rest due to a viral infection,” he wrote in a statement on Twitter. He added, “I’m so sorry to let you know so close to show day, but I was hoping to be closer to a full recovery by now. Sadly, that hasn’t happened. I look forward to seeing you in the New Year.”
Joel will kick off 2023 with two shows set for the first few weeks of the new year on Jan. 13 and Jan. 27 at Madison Square Garden and Hollywood, Fla., respectively, before Joel and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks set off on their joint stadium tour in March.
