On June 28, Alanis Morissette played a stilling tribute to her former bandmate, the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, at her show at the O2 Arena in London.

Morisette is currently on tour in support of the belayed celebration of the 25th anniversary of her LP Jagged Little Pill tour. Hawkins accompanied her and was a member of her live band during the album’s first tour in 1995 and continued to be a member of her band and touring party until he joined Foo Fighters in ’97.

During the performance of her song “Ironic,” photos of the Hawkins were projected behind her and the words “In Memory of Taylor Hawkins” came into view as the song came to a close. In his 2021 autobiography, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl wrote of Morissette’s knowledge of the inevitability of Hawkins joining his band. He wrote, “During his stint as Alanis Morissette’s drummer, long before he became a Foo Fighter, we would bump into each other backstage at festivals all over the world, and our chemistry was so obvious that even Alanis herself once asked him, ‘What are you going to do when Dave asks you to be his drummer?’”

Foo Fighters have two star-studded tribute concerts in Hawkins’ honor on the horizon; one at Wembley Stadium in London and another at the Forum in L.A. on Sept. 27. During the tribute in L.A. Morissette will join the likes of Krist Novoselic, John Paul Jones, Chad Smith, Nikki Sixx and more to honor Hawkins.
