Eddie Vedder Takes a Knee, Pearl Jam Pledge Support to Kaepernick
Eddie Vedder’s headlining solo set at the Pilgrimage Festival in Tennessee addressed the controversy caused by Donald Trump’s comments towards the NFL and those who choose to protest during the National Anthem, as he took a knee early on in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and a number of other professional football players.
Pearl Jam and Vedder are no strangers to making a statement, as Vedder took a knee and the band pledged their support to Michael Bennett (a defensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks), Kaepernick and others in a statement following Mike McCready’s performance of the National Anthem at a football game.
“We support [Bennett], [Kaepernick] and everyone’s constitutional right to stand up, sit down or take a knee for equality,” the band tweeted.
