Dead & Company at Dodger Stadium (A Gallery)

Last night, Dead & Company made their grand return to the stage. The six-piece – Bobby Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge – opened up their summer tour at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Following the “Good Times Roll” opener, first set highlights included “Playing in the Band” which segued into “Feel Like a Stranger,” as well as a closing “Casey Jones.” The second set began with a moving “Althea” and a segued sequence that ran from “Scarlet Begonias” into “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider” and “Fire on the Mountain” before “Drums” and “Space” yielded the debuts of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” and The Beatles’ “Hey Jude Reprise,” both of which were paired with some frequency during the Grateful Dead’s decades-long career. Steve Rood shares these images from the night.
