Calling All Wilco Fans: Tune In To Wilcoworld Radio This Weekend
This morning, Wilco launched a “radio” program on their website in their continuing celebration of
A.M. and Being There, the band’s first two albums, which came out in 1995 and 1996, respectively, and received deluxe rereleases last year. Wilcoworld Radio, which promises over 10 unique hours of programming that will be broadcast throughout this weekend, is less than 30 minutes in, and it’s already obvious that this is something Wilco fans are going to want to check out.
As of this writing,
Rolling Stone veteran writer David Fricke is kicking off the Wilcoworld festivities with a guest DJ hour in which he’s currently revisiting music from Jeff Tweedy’s pre-Wilco band Uncle Tupelo, along with early Wilco cuts, plus some side notes on interviews Fricke conducted with Tweedy in the later ’90s.
The rest of the 10+ hours is laid out in a schedule on the
Radio’s website. Included in the offerings are more guest DJ sets from Jeff Tweedy’s son and bandmate (in the appropriately named duo Tweedy) Spencer, A.M. and Being There producer Cheryl Pawelski and former Chicago DJ Robert Chase; outtakes from both of the albums; live sets from 1996; a discussion with band members Tweedy and John Stirratt talking with Steven Hyden, an author and music critic who wrote liner notes in the Being There reissue; and more. The whole thing rounds out with Wilco’s 2017 Solid Sound Festival opening set, where they played Being There in its entirety.
Whew, that’s a lot of Wilco. But if you’re a fan—especially one that has been with the band since those early days—this is right up your alley, and I highly recommend you tune in at least for a bit this weekend. The full program will run starting at 11am and 11pm EST through this Sunday, February 4. Check out Wilcoworld Radio
