Album Premiere: Willie Farmer ‘The Man From the Hill’

Willie Farmer, a 62-year-old singer/guitarist from the legendarily blues-rich Mississippi Delta—Duck Hill, to be precise—will release his new album, The Man From the Hill, tomorrow, March 1, via Big Legal Mess. Today we offer a sneak peek of the effort, which showcases Farmer’s gritty blues approach as he honors longtime influences like Lightnin’ Hopkins and Howlin’ Wolf.

“I guess I like the record alright,” a humble Farmer tells Relix. And while the musician hopes the album can help him retire from the auto repair shop he’s run for three decades, he does share a couple qualms with the process of putting the record together: “My wife is not too happy about me putting a gospel song on a blues record [a cover of the Sensational Nightingales’ ‘At the Meeting’]. And driving up to Memphis all the time really cut into my deer hunting and car fixing.”
