Maggie Rogers had a slot at Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival on Friday, and the young singer-songwriter donned a special outfit for the occasion, a tie-dyed getup that has ties to the Grateful Dead going back to the band’s early days.
As Billboard reports, Rogers took to Twitter the day after her performance—which was dominated by tracks from her major-label debut, Heard It In a Past Life, that dropped this past January—to explain the significance of the custom tie-dyed shirt and pants, noting that they originally belonged to Grateful Dead audio engineer Dan Healy, whose wife, Kristine, made him the outfit in the late ’60s. The singer borrowed the clothes from her friend Ambrosia Healy, Dan’s daughter and Rogers’ publicist.
Rogers ended her explanation by nodding to the Dead’s influence, along with recent birthday of Jerry Garcia, writing, “Carried all that special energy with me last night. Happy 77th, Jerry.” Garcia played his final show with the Grateful Dead at Chicago’s Soldier Field in July 1995.
