Accepting Song Requests: The Disco Biscuits to Reunite with Original Drummer Sam Altman

The Disco Biscuits are hatching a reunion of sorts.

The pioneering Philadelphia-sourced jamtronica act has extended an invitation to founding member and drummer, Sam Altman. In a video shared across the band’s social media channels, Marc Brownstein outlined the invitation and the imminent sit-in, which will take place on Thursday, June 11, at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., and asked fans to submit their song requests via the comment section.

“What’s kind of cool is that our original drummer, Sam Altman, grew up around the corner from Huntington, Long Island, so we thought it would be nice to invite him out here for the shows. And so Sammy is going to come out and play with us in Huntington,” Brownstein says, opening up the video.

“We’re going to have a kit. We’re going to have auxiliary percussion so Marlon can stay up there. What songs? Drop it right here. What song should Sammy sit in on? You know what I mean? That’s what I’m thinking about right now,” the bassist adds.

Altman was a part of the original Disco Biscuits’ lineup with Jon Gutwillig, Ben Hayflic, and Brownstein. Initially forged at the University of Pennsylvania in the early ‘90s under musical monikers such as Party Tent and Zex Sea, while extemporizing covers of the Grateful Dead and Phish while also parsing in originals.

In 2005, after a decade-long tenure, Altman split from the band to pursue another passion. His last official concerts with the band occurred on August 26-27, 2005. Altman was replaced by Allen Aucoin–who only recently split from the group.

As an invitational send-off, Brownstein concluded the video: “Come out to Huntington on Long Island if you want to come out and catch a little glimpse of the professor, Sam Altman, coming back and sitting in with the Disco Biscuits.

In the comment section, he wrote of the potential length of the sit-in in response to a fan’s inquiry, writing: “Open invite. He said maybe 2 songs with a segue but we will have percussion with us so they can both play at any time.” Watch the clip below.

Tickets remain on sale for the Disco Biscuits’ performance on Thursday, June 11, at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y.
