Premier Guitar has tapped Gov’t Mule’s Kevin Scott and Warren Haynes for a rig rundown and conversation.
The new video opens with the bassist reminiscing on his formative experience playing with the “time-traveling mystic,” Col. Bruce Hampton, the development of his own playing style, and his current role in the virtuoso Southern rock group. Part historic retelling, part instrument overview, the segment segues into Scott’s description of his named instruments, pedals, and a sampling of sounds.
The video transitions into part two, moving from the stage to the greenroom and divulging Haynes’ tales of guitars, more pedals, and his “jazz approach to rock music.” The in-depth, sit-down interview offers an intimate discussion of the history, musical preferences, and his ever-expanding repertoire of songs, styles, and collaborators.
According to the video description, it was shot back in April ahead of Gov’t Mule’s stand at the Pinnacle in Nashville. Premiere Guitar’s Chris Kies leads the conversations. Notably, Haynes’ sit-down with Kies comes after his own 2024 rig rundown (tapped at The Ryman) and accounts for the minor setup shifts since their last discussion.
Gov’t Mule will hit the road in late July for their “Kicking in Your Stall Tour,” which opens on July 22 in South Deerfield, Mass. For more dates and additional information, visit mule.net/tour.
