Low-key intensity haunts Hungry Ghost (Outside In Music), the second album by Los Angeles/Chicago/Copenhagen trio Typical Sisters. The no-nonsense Sisters—Gregory Uhlmann (guitar), Clark Sommers (bass) and Matt Carroll (drums)—converse fluidly with a dazzling vocabulary of ideas glancing off rock, folk, jazz and minimalism as trip-hop tropes subtly shift the atmosphere from track to track. An effortless exchange of ideas leads to wing-suited soaring that often morphs into understated, yet no less gnarly, freak-outs.
