The Duke & The King : The Duke & The King

So

As “If You Ever Get Famous” crawls out of the gate with a modest acoustic strum, the quiet sigh of a vintage organ and the dove-like vocals of songwriter Simone Felice, it’s clear that The Duke & The King aren’t out to dazzle you with radical ideas or production pyrotechnics. Their M.O. is simple, unfussy and old-fashioned songwriting: easy-going chord progressions, tasteful soul-folk arrangements and a glorious lyric sheet ripe for a dusty gatefold jacket. “The morning I get to hell, the devil will take me up in his ferris wheel/ Show me all the scenes below…/ With all his pretty ones dancin’ in the fire.” In Felice’s hands, hell doesn’t sound all that bad. Which is – I suppose – as good of a recommendation as any.
