The Barr Brothers: The Barr Brothers

The Slip’s Brad and Andrew Barr have shifted their musical focus once again. As The Barr Brothers, the Montreal-based siblings strip away The Slip’s recent post-rock tendencies to reveal a set of simple, beautiful and direct songs like “Beggar In the Morning” and “Let There Be Horses” Rounded out by Sarah Page on harp and Miles Perkins on contrabass, the foursome’s self-titled, self-produced ten-song album jumps from laid-back folk songs to string-rattling blues workouts and African tribal rhythms. What’s more, the record also features an impressive guest list that includes Surprise Me Mr. Davis bandmate Nathan Moore, The Low Anthem’s Jocie Adams, Elvis Perkins and Elizabeth Powell of Land of Talk. The Barr Brothers’ debut is another successful step in the Slip family’s musical progression toward perfecting meticulously crafted songs and instrumental atmospheres paired with memorable and thought-provoking lyrics.
