STS9: Axe the Cables

Playing a full acoustic gig is a gutsy maneuver for STS9, the livetronica act whose music and performances are synonymous with laptops, samples and heavy dance rhythms. But the band did just that in late December 2009, delivering a near perfect performance that is captured on the new release Axe the Cables, a beautifully remastered version of the initial live STS9 download. The songs are stunningly strong in the stripped down setting – older material such as “Moonsocket,” “Equinox” and “Kamuy” shine particularly bright and the individual performers are highlighted in a new way in this stripped down setting. For those listeners who’ve previously passed on STS9, this release should turn their heads. From the strut of “Lo Swaga” to the breathtaking “Breathe In,” it’s required listening for any livetronica fan.
