SeepeopleS: Love

SeepeopleS, the Maine-based assembly of musicians under the leadership of singer/guitarist Will Bradford, has existed for the entirety of this century and, over that time, Bradford and company have been steadfastly refining and perfecting their jamband-friendly variety of indie rock. Following five full-length studio releases, the band has embarked on a three-EP adventure, to be titled Love, Hate and Live. On the first installment, the band sounds more grown up than ever, though that’s at least partially a result of the show-of-age demonstrated by the early-‘90s Athens, Ga., vibe of the EP. The music still fits into Guster’s corner of the jamband landscape: The lyrics are meaningful, the guitars are jangly and the tempos are mostly on the slower side, save for upbeat opener “Shangri La La.” There’s also a sonic palate-cleanser in the form of mosart212’s remix of “Conifers of China,” a track from last year’s Dead Souls Sessions, but even that seems to fit the vintage indie motif that carries through the EP. It will be interesting to see if this series’ remaining volumes of releases continue in the same vein or present a drastic contrast but, in the meantime, Love makes for a pleasing, gentle dose of ‘90s nostalgia.
