School of Seven Bells: Disconnect From Desire

Dream-pop threesome School of Seven Bells could possibly be sonic soulmates. This Brooklyn-based outfit composed of guitarist Benjamin Curtis, formerly of Secret Machines, and preternaturally beautiful twins Claudia and Alejandra Deheza of On! Air! Library! all left their bread and butter gigs to craft cinematic, neo-shoegaze together. Proof of their musical soul connection can be heard on the pop-laden sophomore album Disconnect From Desire. This sparkling effort is like a pleasing lucid dream as shimmering melodies meld with delicate ambient beats and languid guitar strums. The sisters conjure up the spirit of the Cocteau Twins with pitch-perfect cooing vocal harmonies and witchy, cryptic lyrics on standout tracks “Heart is Strange” and the playful single “Windstorm,” proving that there is such a thing as musical destiny.
