Primal exultation bubbles at the core of OOIOO’s Nijimusi (Thrill Jockey), the first album in six years by percussionist/ guitarist/vocalist YoshimiO. “Walk for ‘345’ Minutes, While Saying ‘Ah Yeah!’ With a ‘Mountain Book’ in One Hand, Until a Shower of Light Pours Down” is the album’s 11-minute centerpiece, an epic doozy that begins like early tribal Mothers of Invention before taking a dozen rhythmic twists and turns on its way to the titular light dousing. YoshimiO’s all-female quartet walk a fine line between quasi-composed prog-space-funk grooves and Dionysian tribal-punk glee.
