Donavon Frankenreiter : Revisited

Liquid Tambourine

Donavon Frankenreiter’s sixth solo album reflects back on his progress as a musician. On Revisited, Frankenreiter does exactly as the name implies: he revisits and revamps ten songs off of his 2004 self-titled debut. He strips his songs back to just his voice and traditional Hawaiian instruments like the ukulele and lap steel guitar, giving them a calm, soothing sound. Songs like “Free,” the hit off his debut, are presented in skeletal forms – no drums or keys – and are more like ballads than their originals arrangements. This method highlights Frankenreiter’s sweetly raspy vocals and the heartfelt message that has always guided most of his lyrics.
